Cercis canadensis Breeding

Redbud (Cercis canadensis, C. canadensis) is a deciduous tree of the legume family, Zingiberaceae, native to North America, mainly in Canada. The northeastern U.S. C. canadensis is a deciduous bushy shrub or small tree, hardy, adapted to grow in various environments, trunk up to 9 meters, but the wood is hard, small, and regular in shape. C. canadensis is a deciduous shrub or small tree with a hardy trunk up to 9 m. However, it has hardwood, small size, and irregular shape, and is often used as a landscape plant.

Although C. canadensis is difficult to use as timber, the leaves can change from dark green to yellow-green or golden yellow with the season, and the flowering period is also colorful, it is an excellent foliage ornamental tree species, suitable for urban greening and garden landscape. In recent years many countries in Asia, Africa, and America, loved by the widely introduced species, have a certain landscape economic value.

Lifeasible is a plant breeding service provider that integrates plant selection technology, high standard plant selection laboratory, and high-level botanists and has been an industry leader in plant breeding. Our service guarantees to provide our customers with excellent C. canadensis species that are widely adaptable, brightly colored, and resistant to pests and diseases.

Cercis canadensis Breeding Service

C. canadensis is increasingly being discovered for various uses and has great potential for exploitation. Lifeasible has accumulated a wealth of experience in scientifically selecting and breeding the best C. canadensis species for the different needs of our customers. For the selection of C. canadensis, we usually use traditional hybrid and sequencing-based breeding methods.

Hybrid breeding

Several selected C. canadensis species with different hardiness, soil adaptability, and flower color can be selected. The seeds produced from their crosses can be grown in HRC containers to choose the F1 generation with traits between the two parents and continue to provide a suitable survival environment to continue the selection. The F2 seeds can produce genetic recombination of C. canadensis species with the same desirable traits.

Breed selection based on sequencing technology

We used traditional sequencing technology to analyze the evolution of gene families that regulate the development of C. canadensis-related traits, screened molecular markers suitable for genetic studies of C. canadensis, assembled and annotated the related genomes using genome sequencing technology, and provided a basic basis for breeding varieties with morphological traits and DNA sequence data, which can effectively overcome the genomes were assembled and annotated using genome sequencing technology.
