Seaweeds have become a source of food, feed, medicine, cosmetics, energy, and fertiliser and are used in the industrial production of agar and alginates. Due to their nutritional value, their utilization in poultry has recently increased. In addition, it is used in wastewater treatment, for example, to reduce compounds containing nitrogen and phosphorus. Their potential to make ethanol or biodiesel makes them living cell factories for producing biofuels and various beneficial bioactive substances used in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
