Nutrient Agar is used for the cultivation of bacteria and for the enumeration of organisms in water, sewage, faeces and othermaterials.

Cream to yellow homogeneous free flowing powder
Characteristic
Cultural characteristics observed after an incubation at 35-37 centigrade for 18-24 hours .
Reaction of 2.3% w/v aqueous solution at 25 centigrade. pH : 6.8±0.2.
Storage
Store below 30 centigrade in tightly closed container and the prepared medium at 2 - 8 centigrade.
Instructions
Suspend 23.00 grams in 1000 ml distilled water. Heat to boiling to dissolve the medium completely. Sterilize by autoclaving at 15 lbs pressure (121 centigrade) for 15 minutes. If desired, the medium can be enriched with 5 - 10% v/v sterile defibrinated bloods Mix well and pour into sterile Petri plates.
