Water Microbiology Analysis

Human survival are closely related to the sanitation of water which will have a direct impact on human health, and even spread disease. Studies have shown that many human diseases are closely related to drinking water quality. The disease-causing microorganisms can not only spread in the water, but also mutiply in a short time, leading to a direct impact on human health.

Microbiological indicators are currently commomly used indicators to evaluate the biological contamination of water. Lifeasible provides comprehensive analysis of microbiological indicators in water specimens, which can help our customers to understand the characteristics and correlation of microbiological indicators in different types of water, to accurately evaluate the water contamination situation and water quality.

Detection indicators and methods

Item Category Detection methods
General microbial flora determination Total colony count In the process of determining the colony count of water samples, Lifeasible first mixes the water samples to be tested thoroughly, after which the already mixed sample to be tested is transferred to a Petri dish and the existing mixture to be tested is incubated for sufficient time according to the prescribed incubation method, and the colony count is performed after completion.
Total coliform In the determination of total coliforms, Lifeasible may use three methods depending on the actual condition of the sample.
  • Multi-tube fermentation method (It is not affected by turbidity, the results are more stable and semi-quantitative)
  • Filter membrane method (Suitable for high-volume testing)
  • Enzyme substrate method (Easy to operate, short detection time, high specificity, high accuracy, and not affected by turbidity It is not affected by turbidity and has a wide range of application)
Heat-resistant coliforms
  • Preliminary fermentation
  • Heat tolerant culture
  • Plate culture
  • Obtain specific information on colonies
Escherichia coli EC-MUG medium is often used by Lifeasible in Escherichia coli assays for samples that have yielded acid or gas after preliminary fermentation experiments in total coliform assays.
Determination of harmful microorganisms SRB (sulfate-reducing bacteria) The main methods used by Lifeasible in the determination of harmful microorganisms (SRB, IB, saprophytic bacteria) are the test bottle adiabatic dilution method, culture-microscopy method, etc., which can quickly and accurately determine the content of harmful microorganisms.
IB (iron bacterium)
Saprophytic bacterial flora

To improve the accuracy of microbiological indicators in water samples, Lifeasible offers a variety of testing methods, and depending on the specific situation of the water sample, we will develop a reasonable testing program to ensure a high degree of accuracy of the test results. Please ensure that the entire sample collection process meets the relevant specifications and that sufficient sample volume is collected. You can contact our staff before sample collection to obtain the most appropriate sample collection and pre-treatment protocols and customized testing solutions.
